Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Remembered on Death Anniversary

ISLAMABAD: (News Desk) – The 29th death anniversary of legendary Pakistani qawwali maestro Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan is being observed today, with fans and musicians remembering the iconic singer who introduced South Asian qawwali to audiences around the world.

Widely known as the “King of Qawwali,” Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan captivated listeners with his extraordinary vocal range, emotional intensity and deeply spiritual performances. His music crossed cultural and geographical boundaries, earning him a devoted international following.

In addition to qawwali, he performed hamd, naat and other religious music and also contributed to film soundtracks in Pakistan and India. Many of his recordings remain popular decades after his death.

Born into a renowned musical family in Faisalabad, Nusrat received musical training from an early age before developing a distinctive singing style that brought him global recognition. His performances attracted large audiences across Pakistan, India, Europe and the United States.

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan died in London on August 16, 1997, at the age of 48. Nearly three decades later, his recordings continue to inspire musicians and listeners worldwide, while his legacy remains deeply connected with the rich qawwali tradition of Pakistan.
