Bangladesh stun Australia with historic nine-wicket Test win

Darwin: (Sports Desk) – Bangladesh produced a stunning performance in Darwin on Sunday, defeating Australia by nine wickets to secure their first-ever Test victory on Australian soil.

After dismissing Australia for 284 in their second innings, Bangladesh needed just 57 runs to win. Mominul Haque sealed the historic victory by cutting Beau Webster through backward point for four.

The visitors controlled the match from the outset. Bangladesh bowled Australia out for 198 in the first innings before posting a commanding 426, with opener Tanzid Hasan scoring his maiden Test century.

Australia’s second innings offered brief resistance through Cameron Green, who made a fighting 104 for his third Test hundred. However, Bangladesh’s bowlers continued to strike at crucial moments, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz leading the attack with outstanding figures of 5-66.

Alex Carey and Green attempted to rebuild Australia’s innings, but Mehidy dismissed Carey before removing Webster and captain Pat Cummins. Green eventually fell after a Hasan Mahmud delivery kept low and crashed into his stumps.

Bangladesh’s disciplined bowling, solid batting and sharp fielding kept Australia under sustained pressure throughout the contest. Despite entering the match as clear underdogs following a heavy warm-up defeat, the visitors outplayed Australia in every department.

Mominul Haque and Shadman Islam then completed the chase comfortably, despite the early dismissal of Tanzid Hasan, giving Bangladesh a memorable nine-wicket triumph.
