ICC Confirms Cricket Olympics 2028 Qualification System for LA Games

Cricket Olympics 2028 Pathway Set — Six Teams to Compete at LA Games

ICC – (Web Desk) – Cricket Olympics 2028 is now officially on track as the International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed the full qualification pathway for cricket’s historic return to the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Both the men’s and women’s competitions will feature six teams each. Regions including Africa, Asia, Europe and Oceania are all guaranteed at least one spot at the LA 2028 Games.

Five of the six spots in each competition will be decided through existing ICC events and T20I rankings, following the already-published Future Tour Programme structure.

The sixth and final spot in both events will go through the brand new ICC Olympics Qualifier, a dedicated tournament set to take place in 2027 with eight teams competing for that last place.

The ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 has already helped confirm four teams — Australia, England, India and South Africa — as qualified for the Olympics through their respective regional spots.

Host nation USA can also qualify for both the men’s and women’s events, but only if they appear inside the top 15 of the ICC T20I rankings between June 30 and December 31, 2026.

The West Indies will not be eligible to compete directly at the Olympics. As a composite member representing multiple Caribbean nations, they are not recognised as an IOC National Olympic Committee. However, a dedicated Caribbean Qualifier may be held to decide regional representation.

Cricket is returning to the Olympics after a 128-year absence, and the road to LA 2028 has now officially begun.
