PIA Privatisation First Closing Done, Arif Habib Takes Over
PIA Privatisation First Closing Marks a New Era for Pakistan's National Airline
PIA – (Web Desk) – Pakistan’s Privatisation Commission has completed the PIA privatisation first closing, officially handing over management control of Pakistan International Airlines to a private investor consortium led by Arif Habib Corporation Limited.
The bidding for PIA took place on December 23, 2025. The winning consortium made a total investment commitment of Rs180 billion to secure the airline.
Under the first closing, the consortium has paid Rs10 billion to the government as sale proceeds. An additional Rs80 billion has been injected directly into PIA as fresh equity to support the airline’s recovery and growth.
This fresh investment will help PIA expand its fleet, grow its route network, improve customer service, and strengthen its overall financial position.
The second closing is expected within 12 months. At that point, the consortium will inject another Rs45 billion into the airline. The consortium has also shown interest in buying the remaining 25% shares for an additional Rs45 billion.
PM Advisor on Privatisation, Muhammad Ali, said this transaction proves Pakistan can handle complex deals in a transparent and professional way. He added that the government will continue to protect employee, passenger, and consumer interests during the transition.
All aviation laws and regulatory oversight will remain fully in place.
