Islamabad: (Finance Reporter) – The federal government has initiated the process of exporting imported sugar, with the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) inviting bids for the sale of a substantial quantity.
According to the tender document, TCP is seeking electronic bids for the export of 107,739 metric tonnes of sugar. Interested parties have been asked to submit their bids by September 28, with the offers scheduled to be opened on the same day.
The tender specifies that only electronic bids will be considered, while manually submitted offers will not be accepted.
Government sources said Pakistan imported more than 300,000 metric tonnes of sugar last year to meet domestic requirements. The country reportedly spent around Rs50 billion on sugar imports during the period.
The latest move to export part of the imported stock comes as authorities manage sugar supplies and market conditions following the large-scale imports.
