Australia Knock India Out, Storm Into Women’s T20 World Cup Semi-finals

LONDON: (Web Desk) – Australia sealed their place in the semi-finals of the Women’s T20 World Cup with a commanding six-wicket victory over India at Lord’s on Sunday, ending India’s hopes of lifting a maiden T20 World Cup title.
The five-time champions completed a perfect group-stage campaign, winning all five matches to finish top of their group. Chasing a challenging target of 171, Australia reached 171-4 with an over to spare.
After losing opener Georgia Voll off the second ball, Australia recovered through a crucial 100-run fourth-wicket partnership between Ellyse Perry and Ashleigh Gardner. Perry scored 56 off 38 balls, while Gardner remained unbeaten on a blistering 53 from 29 deliveries to steer her side to victory.
Earlier, India posted 170-4 — their highest-ever total against Australia in a Women’s T20 World Cup match. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur led the charge with a 27-ball 56, while Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma added 66 for the opening wicket. Jemimah Rodrigues contributed 34 before retiring out late in the innings.
With the defeat, India’s campaign came to an end, while Australia advanced to the last four with an unbeaten record.
