Sindh Ashura Public Holiday 2026 Falls on June 25 and 26
Sindh – (Web Desk) – Sindh government has officially announced the Sindh Ashura public holiday 2026 on June 25 and 26, marking the 9th and 10th of Muharram-ul-Haram 1448 AH.
All government offices, corporations, and local councils across the province will remain closed on both days. Only essential services will continue to operate as normal.
Muslims around the world will observe Ashura with deep grief and sorrow. The occasion marks the martyrdom of Imam Husain (RA), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), in the Battle of Karbala.
The holy month of Muharram-ul-Haram began on June 17, as confirmed by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony made the official announcement.
Karachi police have put strong security arrangements in place for the main processions from 8th to 10th Muharram.
People who want to join processions in vehicles must get a permit sticker or pass. Applications were accepted at the DIG Traffic Karachi Office in Garden until June 23, 2026.
To get a pass, applicants had to submit a copy of their vehicle registration, a valid CNIC of the owner and driver, two passport-size photos of the driver, and an introduction letter from a registered organisation.
Passes will only be given to law enforcement agencies, registered organisations, ambulances, and media outlets. Unregistered individuals and vehicles will not be eligible.
Authorities have warned that misuse of permits, false information, or non-cooperation during security checks will result in immediate cancellation of the pass.
A maximum of three persons are allowed to travel under one permit during the procession days.
