Petrol Witnesses Nominal Drop as OGRA Revises Fuel Prices in Pakistan

Petrol Witnesses Nominal Drop Under New OGRA Pricing Mechanism

Pakistan – (Staff Reporter/Web Desk) – Petrol witnesses nominal drop in Pakistan, giving motorists a small break after weeks of rising fuel costs. The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority, known as OGRA, cut the petrol price by Re1 per litre. This change came into force right away.

The new rate applies across the whole country. It follows the government’s daily fuel pricing system. This system was set up to keep local prices in line with world oil trends.

While petrol went down, other fuels did not follow the same path. Diesel prices went up by Rs3.37 per litre. This hike may affect transport costs and goods prices in the coming days.

Kerosene oil also became costlier. Its price rose by Rs1.96 per litre. It now sells at Rs303.10 per litre across Pakistan.

Diesel is widely used by trucks, buses, and farm machines. A rise in its price often pushes up the cost of moving goods. This can lead to higher prices for food and daily items.

OGRA shared this update through an official notice. The notice was issued under the new petroleum pricing rules approved by the federal cabinet.

Officials say the daily pricing model helps pass on global price shifts faster. Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik said the system uses a seven-day average of world oil prices. This keeps Pakistan’s fuel rates closer to global market standards.

The shift to daily pricing began after tension grew in the Middle East. Conflict between Iran and other nations had shaken oil markets. This led to fear over supply routes like the Strait of Hormuz.

Before this, Pakistan used a weekly system to set fuel prices. Before that, prices changed only once every two weeks. The government moved faster as oil markets grew more unstable.

Under the new rules, OGRA can set prices on its own each day. It no longer needs approval from the prime minister for daily changes. This makes the process quicker and more open.

There is one small rule to note. Prices set on Friday stay the same through the weekend. New rates only apply again from Monday onward.

For everyday drivers, even a small drop in petrol price brings some comfort. Many people rely on petrol for bikes and small cars. A cut of Re1 may seem minor, but it adds up over a full tank.

At the same time, the rise in diesel worries many business owners. Diesel powers most heavy transport in the country. Higher diesel costs often mean higher fares and higher prices at local markets.

Experts believe fuel prices may keep changing often in the near future. Much depends on how oil markets react to global events. The situation in the Middle East remains a key factor to watch.

For now, petrol witnesses nominal drop, but the overall fuel picture stays mixed. Consumers are advised to stay updated through official OGRA notices, since rates may shift again soon under the new daily review system.

People across Pakistan are watching closely. Fuel prices touch nearly every part of daily life, from travel to food costs. Any small change can shape monthly budgets for families and businesses alike.
