JI Announces Nationwide Highway Protests on August 7 Against Inflation, Fuel Prices

ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Ameer Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has announced nationwide highway protests on August 7, calling on citizens across Pakistan to join what he described as a major movement against soaring inflation and rising fuel prices.

Speaking during a review meeting of the party’s protest campaign on Monday, Hafiz Naeem said demonstrations would take place on major highways nationwide, where protesters would block roads to press the government for immediate economic relief.

He urged people from all walks of life—including traders, lawyers, students, workers, and youth—to participate in large numbers, saying the movement would remain peaceful and democratic. He also encouraged young people to join the demonstrations with motorcycle rallies.

The JI chief stated that ambulances would be allowed to pass unhindered during the protests, while warning against any attempts to obstruct the party’s constitutional right to peaceful assembly.

Hafiz Naeem demanded the immediate abolition of the petroleum levy and called on the government to review agreements with Independent Power Producers (IPPs), arguing that these measures are necessary to reduce the financial burden on the public.

To mobilize support ahead of the nationwide demonstrations, Jamaat-e-Islami announced plans to hold 20,000 corner meetings across the country in the coming days.
