Three Pakistani Students Earn Bronze at International Physics Olympiad

BUCARAMANGA: (Web Desk) – Pakistani students achieved a remarkable milestone by winning three bronze medals at the 56th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO), held in Bucaramanga, Colombia, from July 4 to 12.

The prestigious international competition featured more than 400 students representing over 90 countries, bringing together some of the world’s most talented young physicists.

The Pakistani medal winners included Zulfiqar Ali from Dera Ghazi Khan, Hamdan Alvi from Rawalpindi, and Daniyal Shahzad Hameed from Islamabad. Meanwhile, Huza Mahmud from Lahore and Abdullah Ejaz from Rawalpindi earned Honourable Mentions for their outstanding performances.

The students were selected through the 22nd National Science Talent Contest, organised by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) in collaboration with the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS). After a competitive selection process, the participants received intensive training at the PIEAS campus.

During their preparation, the students underwent advanced theoretical and experimental training under the guidance of national and international experts to enhance their skills for the global event.

The Pakistani delegation was led by Professor Dr Muhammad Irfan and Dr Muhammad Waseem from PIEAS, who supported the students throughout the competition.

With this achievement, Pakistani students have now won 144 medals at International Science Olympiads, with more than 365 students representing the country in global academic competitions over the years.
