Shandur: (Web Desk) – Caretaker Minister for Information, Broadcasting, and Information Technology of Gilgit-Baltistan, Ghulam Abbas, has congratulated the people of Gilgit-Baltistan, the polo players, team management, and sports enthusiasts on the region’s remarkable and historic victory at the world’s highest polo ground, Shandur.

After witnessing the thrilling final match of the Shandur Polo Festival, Ghulam Abbas said that the Gilgit-Baltistan polo team displayed exceptional skill, outstanding sportsmanship, and exemplary teamwork to reclaim the prestigious Shandur Trophy after 15 years.

He described the achievement as a proud moment not only for the players but for the entire people of Gilgit-Baltistan. “This victory belongs to the whole region, not just a single team or district. Our players have demonstrated that the youth of Gilgit-Baltistan possess the talent, determination, and ability to excel at every level,” he said.

The minister noted that many observers had considered Chitral the favorite before the match and predicted its victory. However, the Gilgit-Baltistan team defied expectations with an impressive performance, proving their superiority on the field and surprising critics with their remarkable display of skill and determination.

Ghulam Abbas emphasized that Shandur is more than just a sports venue; it is a symbol of the historical, cultural, and traditional ties between Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral. He said that such competitions not only promote sports but also strengthen mutual respect, harmony, and brotherhood among people from different regions.

The minister further stated that this historic triumph at Shandur would be remembered for generations. “The return of the trophy to Gilgit-Baltistan after 15 years is proof that determination, hard work, and collective spirit can overcome any challenge. Today, the entire region takes pride in this achievement, and we hope that through the continued dedication of our players, the trophy will remain with Gilgit-Baltistan in the years to come,” he added.
