Shaheen Afridi Set to Feature in President’s Trophy Grade-I 2026

Pakistan's ODI captain returns to first-class cricket after nine years, joining KRL for the new domestic season.

Shaheen Shah Afridi – (Staff Reporter/Web Desk) – Shaheen Shah Afridi is all set to play in the President’s Trophy Grade-I 2026, according to sources close to the matter. This will mark his first appearance in first-class cricket since his standout season back in 2017.

The fast bowler was recently left out of Pakistan’s squads for the West Indies and England tours. Now, he looks ready to shift his focus toward domestic cricket instead.

Shaheen will turn out for his boyhood department, Khan Research Laboratories, widely known as KRL. The team had finished fourth in the last edition of this tournament.

KRL will begin their campaign against Ghani Glass. The opening match is set to take place in Peshawar, running from September 12 to 15.

Shaheen made his Test debut in 2018, just a year after his last first-class game. Since then, he has gone on to play 34 Tests for Pakistan.

He recently led Pakistan Gold to victory in the very first National Champions Cup. His side beat Shadab Khan’s Pakistan Greens in a thrilling final.

Reports also suggest Shaheen will represent KRL in the President’s Cup as well. This List-A tournament was originally planned for August this year.

However, it got pushed to December after a request from selectors and team management. They felt players deserved more rest following the Champions Cup.

The President’s Cup now stands as Pakistan’s main 50-over domestic event. This comes after the PCB decided to scrap the Pakistan Cup following last season.

Cricket fans across the country will be watching closely to see how Shaheen performs on his long-awaited return to first-class cricket.
