Pakistan, Qatar Discuss Progress on Prospective US-Iran Agreement

Uncertainty Persists Over Timing of Expected US-Iran Accord

DOHA: (Web Desk) – A Qatari delegation has arrived in Tehran as diplomatic efforts continue behind the scenes to facilitate indirect communication between Iran and the United States. The delegation, led by an adviser to Qatar’s foreign minister, is reportedly carrying messages between the two sides amid ongoing negotiations.

The visit marks the second trip by Qatari officials to Tehran within days, highlighting intensified regional diplomacy aimed at advancing a potential agreement between Washington and Tehran.

Reports suggest that a peace accord between the United States and Iran could be finalized soon, although uncertainty remains over the exact timeline. US President Donald Trump stated on social media that an agreement was expected to be signed on Sunday and claimed that the Strait of Hormuz would be reopened for all shipping following the deal.

Trump also expressed support for long-term cooperation with Iran and the broader Middle East, while warning that alternative measures remain available should negotiations fail.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani. During the discussion, both leaders reviewed recent developments related to the anticipated agreement and regional peace efforts.

According to Pakistan’s Prime Minister’s Office, Shehbaz Sharif welcomed progress toward the agreement and thanked Qatar for its continued diplomatic support during recent regional tensions.

Despite optimistic statements from various officials, confusion persists regarding the signing date. Iran’s Foreign Ministry has indicated that no digital signing ceremony will take place on Sunday, stressing that the timeline has yet to be finalized.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said the exact date for signing the memorandum of understanding remains undecided and cautioned against premature announcements due to uncertainties in the negotiation process.

Separately, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar spoke with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan. Both sides expressed hope that the expected agreement would contribute to lasting peace, stability, and cooperation across the region.
