BEIJING: (Web Desk) – US President Donald Trump arrived in Beijing on Wednesday for a crucial summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping, marking the first visit to China by a sitting US president in nearly ten years. The high-level talks are expected to focus on easing tensions between the world’s two largest economies amid disputes over trade, Taiwan and the Middle East.
Trump landed aboard Air Force One at Beijing Capital International Airport after travelling from Washington. The US president appeared heavily focused on economic cooperation and business opportunities, with major technology executives including Jensen Huang and Elon Musk joining the delegation. Trump also signalled plans to push for greater market access for American companies operating in China.
The summit comes as competition intensifies in the global artificial intelligence sector. China remains restricted from purchasing advanced AI chips produced by Nvidia under US export controls aimed at protecting national security. Trump said he would encourage Xi Jinping to further open China’s economy to US businesses and innovation.
Donald Trump To Visit China THIS Week For Key Talks
Trump and Xi are scheduled to hold formal talks at Beijing’s Great Hall of the People followed by a state banquet. Discussions are expected to include Iran, Taiwan, tariffs, rare earth exports and broader economic cooperation. Trump also indicated he would discuss US arms sales to Taiwan, a highly sensitive issue for Beijing.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urged Trump to raise the issue of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine during the China meetings. Zelensky said Kyiv hoped Washington would continue efforts to secure an end to the war as diplomatic negotiations remain stalled.
