Supreme Court of Pakistan Adjourns PTI Intra-Party Election Case
Hearing Delayed Until October 21 Due to Absence of Legal Representation
The Supreme Court of Pakistan has postponed the hearing of the PTI intra-party election review case until October 21, as no representatives from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) appeared in court.
The absence of PTI’s legal team led Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faiz Isa to express his astonishment at Hamid Khan’s request for an adjournment, citing family obligations as the reason.
During the proceedings, Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa remarked that the court’s earlier ruling in the intra-party election matter had been intentionally misinterpreted. He clarified that the case specifically pertains to PTI’s internal elections, not to the issue of election symbols, as has been suggested in public discussions.
Akbar S. Babar’s lawyer informed the court that PTI had already held its intra-party elections but was currently embroiled in a dispute with the Election Commission.
The chief justice questioned the delay in filing the review petition and criticized PTI’s legal team for failing to seek an expedited hearing.
While Akbar S. Babar’s legal representatives requested that the case be heard the following day, the Chief Justice declined, stating that rapidly rescheduling hearings could lead to unnecessary chaos.
He emphasized that the adjournment until October 21 was granted in the interest of justice but warned that no further adjournments would be allowed for PTI’s legal team.
