Rain Limits Second Day of Leeds Test to 63 Overs

Wet Outfield Delays Play as England Chase Pakistan Lead

LEEDS: (Sports Desk) – Rain and a wet outfield have significantly disrupted the second day of the first Test between England and Pakistan, with only 63 overs scheduled to be bowled on Thursday.

Play is now scheduled to begin at 6:30pm Pakistan time, weather permitting.

The opening session was abandoned because persistent rain left the outfield unfit for play. Further showers subsequently reduced the available playing time for the day.

England need 59 runs to take lead

England resumed the match with a strong position after reaching 112-2 in their first innings at the close of play on Wednesday.

Joe Root remained unbeaten on 37, while Jordan Cox was not out on 23.

England require another 59 runs to overtake Pakistan’s first-innings total, with the hosts looking to build a significant lead once play resumes.

The rain clouds hanging over Leeds have continued to frustrate both teams, with the wet conditions preventing the players from returning to the field at Headingley.

Pakistan searching for a response

Pakistan were dismissed for just 171 runs on the opening day after their batting line-up collapsed against England’s bowling attack.

England seamers Ollie Robinson and Josh Tongue claimed five wickets each, while Pakistan’s top order struggled to withstand the pressure.

The batting collapse has added to concerns surrounding Pakistan’s recent Test form, with the team hoping the current series can mark a turnaround after a difficult period.

England, meanwhile, will look to capitalise on their strong start once weather conditions allow play to resume.
