ICC Withdraws Demerit Point Against Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium Pitch
The demerit point had been scheduled to remain on Gaddafi Stadium’s record for five years
Dubai: (Sports Reporter) – The International Cricket Council (ICC) has withdrawn the one demerit point imposed on Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium over the pitch used during the ODI between Pakistan and Australia.
The ICC Review Panel overturned the decision to rate the pitch as “unsatisfactory,” concluding that the surface did not produce excessive uneven bounce or excessive spin during the match.
The demerit point had been scheduled to remain on Gaddafi Stadium’s record for five years. However, following the review, the penalty has now been removed.
The ICC Review Panel upheld the match referee’s assessment process but found that the pitch did not demonstrate an unusual degree of deterioration or abnormal playing characteristics.
The decision provides major relief to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), as Gaddafi Stadium can now continue to host international matches without any pitch-related restrictions or sanctions.
The development is being viewed as positive news for Pakistan cricket, confirming Gaddafi Stadium’s eligibility to host international cricket without the demerit point.
