IMF Plans Multi-Billion Dollar Assistance for Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) -Pakistan is expected to receive more than $4 billion from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) over the next two fiscal years under its ongoing financial support programmes, according to informed sources.

Sources told 24News that the IMF is projected to disburse approximately $2.62 billion to Pakistan during the fiscal year 2026-27, followed by an additional $1.47 billion in the fiscal year 2027-28.

The anticipated funding will be provided through the IMF’s existing assistance frameworks, including the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and the Climate Financing Programme.

Pakistan Assures IMF Over Fiscal Targets And Reforms

According to the details, Pakistan is expected to receive nearly $2.09 billion under the EFF programme during FY2026-27, along with about $530 million through climate-related financing support in the same fiscal year.

For FY2027-28, the IMF is expected to release around $1.05 billion under the EFF programme and approximately $420 million under the Climate Financing Programme.

The projected disbursements form part of Pakistan’s ongoing engagement with the IMF, which currently includes a $7 billion Extended Fund Facility and a $1.4 billion Climate Financing Programme aimed at supporting economic stability, structural reforms and climate resilience initiatives.

The expected inflows are likely to provide additional support to Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves and help the government maintain progress on key economic reform commitments agreed with the Fund.
