PML-N Has Not Initiated New Provinces Debate, Says Sanaullah

Sanaullah Says New Provinces Debate Still Has Time

ISLAMABAD: (Staff Reporter) – Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) and PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah has said the party’s position on the creation of new provinces can be understood from the fact that it has not initiated any discussion on the issue.

Speaking to journalists at the residence of senior journalist Mujeebur Rehman Shami in Lahore on Sunday, Sanaullah said there was still considerable time before any new provinces could be created.

He said even if the matter reached Parliament, it could take another six to seven months before the process began to take shape.

Sanaullah said it remained uncertain whether parliamentary debate would ultimately lead to the creation of new administrative units, pave the way for local government elections, or produce no concrete outcome.

Commenting on possible contacts with PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan, he said some individuals might be holding talks with him, but “this will not come without a price.”

Sanaullah also claimed that PTI workers were planning to march on Islamabad while carrying weapons.

“On the other hand, there are reports that militants, designated as Fitna al-Khawarij, plan to attack the party’s rally in order to widen the gulf between the people and the government,” he said.

The SAPM further said that PML-N leaders in Bahawalpur were not in favour of joining a proposed South Punjab province. According to him, they either wanted Bahawalpur to remain an independent administrative unit or continue as part of Punjab.
