Pakistan Accelerates National Campaign Against Hepatitis C

ISLAMABAD: (Health Reporter) – Pakistan has decided to speed up its national campaign against Hepatitis C, with Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal expressing the government’s commitment to making the country hepatitis-free through early diagnosis and free treatment.

A meeting of the Prime Minister’s Programme for Hepatitis C was held under the chairmanship of Mustafa Kamal, where progress on ongoing measures to eliminate the disease was reviewed.

The health minister said that timely identification and treatment of Hepatitis C patients can effectively control the spread of the disease. He stated that Pakistan has more than 10 million Hepatitis C patients and that making the country hepatitis-free is a national priority.

He described the initiative as more than just a health programme, calling it an important campaign to protect the future of the nation.

Mustafa Kamal added that hospitals including PIMS and Polyclinic Hospital in Islamabad will play a key role in the success of the Hepatitis C elimination programme. He emphasized that Hepatitis C is a treatable disease and that the public must also contribute alongside government efforts to eliminate it.
