KARACHI: (Staff Reporter) – Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah has criticised the MQM leadership, saying it does not represent the people of Karachi and has no elected mandate from the city’s residents.
Reacting to MQM leaders’ recent press conference, Nasir Shah took aim at party chairman Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and made personal remarks about his mental state. He also accused the MQM of having a troubled political record and said Karachi’s residents had rejected its politics.
Nasir Shah further said that Sindh would not be divided, while claiming that divisions within the MQM itself were becoming increasingly visible.
The remarks came after MQM-P announced plans to initiate a national dialogue on the creation of new provinces in Pakistan, describing the issue as a need of the hour.
Addressing a press conference in Karachi, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui argued that Pakistan’s existing provinces were not created according to administrative requirements and were largely formed on linguistic lines. He said the country’s growing population had increased the need for new administrative units, but the number of provinces had not expanded accordingly.
