Japan vs Netherlands World Cup Draw: Kamada Strikes Late in Dallas Thriller

Japan vs Netherlands World Cup Draw Stuns Dallas in Group F Thriller

Japan vs Netherlands – (Web Desk) – Japan came from behind twice to earn a hard-fought 2-2 draw against the Netherlands in their Japan vs Netherlands World Cup Group F opener at Dallas Stadium on Sunday, showing the kind of fighting spirit that has made them one of Asia’s most respected sides.

The Dutch took the lead through captain Virgil van Dijk, who headed home a Ryan Gravenberch cross six minutes into the second half. Japan hit back almost immediately when Keito Nakamura drove a deflected shot into the bottom corner to level things up.

The Netherlands were not done, though. Crysencio Summerville, the West Ham winger, curled a beautiful left-footed effort around goalkeeper Zion Suzuki to put his side back in front. It looked like the Dutch would hold on — but Japan had other ideas.

Deep into the match, substitute Koki Ogawa powered a header toward goal from a corner. The ball clipped off Daichi Kamada’s head and looped beyond a helpless Bart Verbruggen to seal a dramatic equaliser in the 88th minute.

Japan had also been dealing with the late withdrawal of key midfielder Wataru Endo due to injury before the game even kicked off. Yet the team responded with discipline and calmness throughout.

“The players did a solid job,” said Japan coach Hajime Moriyasu. “Even with unexpected situations, they stayed calm and overcame what was in front of them.”

For the Netherlands, Ronald Koeman admitted the result was a disappointment. “You come ahead twice and don’t win — that hurts,” he said. The Dutch now face Sweden in Houston next.

Japan’s performance showed they are ready to compete at this World Cup.
