IESCO’s AMI Project Sets Benchmark for Technology-Driven Power Distribution

National Defence University Delegation Reviews IESCO’s Smart Metering System

Islamabad – (Special Correspondent / Web Desk) – A group of officers from different government departments, currently attending a Project Management course at the National Defence University (NDU), Islamabad, recently visited the IESCO AMI Project’s Operational Control Room to see how the system works up close.

The visit gave the delegation a firsthand look at how smart metering is reshaping the way electricity is monitored and managed in the region.

During the visit, Project Director AMI, Mohsin Raza Gilani, along with Deputy Director AMI Imran and other senior IESCO staff, walked the group through the goals of the project. They explained how the smart metering setup works, what it aims to achieve, and why it matters for the future of power distribution.

The officers learned that this system allows real-time tracking of electricity usage, remote meter readings without needing a technician on-site, and stronger checks against power theft. It also helps cut down technical losses and makes billing more transparent for everyday consumers.

The delegation didn’t just sit through a briefing. They toured different parts of the control centre, watching live data monitoring and control operations in action. Many of them said the project could serve as a model for other government bodies looking to modernize their own systems.

Before wrapping up, the visitors took part in a Q&A session, asking detailed questions about both the technical setup and the administrative side of running such a large-scale initiative.

The event ended on a warm note, with IESCO and NDU exchanging commemorative shields. Both sides agreed to keep working together, sharing knowledge and building stronger ties between their institutions going forward.
