Goods Transport Fares Increased 5% Following Continued Petroleum Price Hikes
KARACHI: (Finance Reporter) – The All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance has announced a 5 percent increase in freight charges following the continued rise in petroleum product prices.
Alliance President Malik Shahzad Awan strongly condemned the repeated increase in fuel prices, saying transporters could no longer absorb the additional financial burden.
Awan said frequent changes in petroleum prices were unacceptable and announced that the increase in freight charges would take effect in response to rising operating costs.
He said the nationwide strike had been postponed for 40 days following assurances from the government. According to Awan, the government had requested the 40-day period, which is due to expire next week.
He added that transporters would decide their future course of action after the deadline expires, indicating that further measures could be considered if their concerns remain unresolved.
Meanwhile, the Jamaat-e-Islami has announced a march towards Islamabad on September 20 to protest against the petroleum levy.
