Pakistan Army Says May 9-Like Situation Will Not Be Tolerated

Corps commanders also back Saudi Arabia, welcome the Makkah Defence Alliance and warn Afghanistan over terrorism.

RAWALPINDI – (Staff Reporter/Web Desk) –  Pakistan’s army leadership has sent a clear message that it will not allow any May 9-like situation in the country. It said anyone who tries to cause unrest will face strict action under the law.

The message came from the 277th Corps Commanders’ Conference, held at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Friday. Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir chaired the meeting.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) shared the details in an official statement.

The forum reviewed the current security situation in the country. After the discussion, the commanders agreed that no one would be allowed to create agitation on any excuse.

They said such attempts would be handled firmly and under the rule of law. They also stressed that action would be taken without hesitation and without discrimination.

The commanders also looked at the wider regional situation. They said Pakistan has the right to defend itself and to take targeted action against terrorism coming from Afghan soil.

The forum said the Taliban leadership is helping terrorism on behalf of India. It added that the Taliban leadership will be responsible for the results.

On Kashmir, the army repeated Pakistan’s long-held position on Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. It said the dispute should be settled according to UN Security Council resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.

In his closing remarks, Field Marshal Munir praised the commanders for their readiness. He told them to make intelligence-based operations stronger.

He also asked them to improve combat skills through modern technology, better training and closer cooperation between all branches of the forces.

The army chief said he was confident that the armed forces are fully ready to protect Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and national security.

The conference also offered Fateha for the martyrs of the armed forces, law enforcement agencies and civil society.

The commanders welcomed the signing of the Makkah Defence Alliance between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye.

They also condemned the Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia. The forum stood with the Kingdom and promised that Pakistan will stay committed to the security and sanctity of the Haramain Sharifain.

The statement came at a time when tension between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis has grown after fresh cross-border attacks.

The Houthis announced a naval blockade on the Kingdom in July. Since then, they have carried out repeated missile and drone attacks on Saudi Arabia.

The group has also targeted Saudi-linked ships in the Red Sea. Airports, energy sites and other key buildings have been hit too.

According to reports, Saudi air defence systems have stopped many of these missiles and drones.
