FBR Allows Monthly Instalments for Sales Tax on Imported Mobile Phones

New FBR Rules Allow Instalments for Imported Mobile Phone Taxes

ISLAMABAD: (Finance Reporter) – The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has introduced a facility allowing eligible individuals to pay sales tax on imported mobile phones in monthly instalments when registering their devices through the Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS).

Under Customs General Order (CGO) No. 06 of 2026, the FBR has amended its 2019 order to facilitate individuals registering imported mobile phones by spreading their tax payments over monthly instalments.

According to the revised procedure, applicants falling under paragraphs A, B and C of the existing order can opt for the instalment facility when submitting their applications through DIRBS. The total sales tax will be divided into equal monthly payments according to the number of months remaining in the financial year, including the month in which the application is submitted.

However, individuals importing mobile phones in June will be required to pay the entire sales tax within the same month.

The first instalment must be paid through a Payment Slip ID (PSID) generated at the time of application. Subsequent instalments will be paid through separate PSIDs issued on the corresponding date of each following month. If the scheduled date does not fall within a particular month, the PSID will be generated for that month’s final day.

The FBR has clarified that all instalments must be paid by June 30, the end of the financial year. Applicants will also have the option to pay part or all of their outstanding tax before the scheduled deadlines.

The tax authority has warned that failure to pay any instalment on time will result in the individual being declared a defaulter. In such cases, the mobile phone will be treated as unregistered and blocked through DIRBS, while the entire outstanding sales tax will become immediately payable.

Furthermore, individuals who default on an instalment will lose the facility to pay the remaining tax in instalments and will be required to clear the outstanding amount in full.
