HEC Suspends Computing Admissions At Forty-Four Universities

HEC Halts Computing Program Admissions After NSCT Performance Concerns

ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has temporarily suspended admissions in computing and computer science programs at 44 universities and higher education institutions following poor performance by students in the National Skill Competency Test (NSCT) 2026.

According to HEC officials, the decision was taken after a significant number of students from the affected institutions failed to meet the minimum competency standards set under the NSCT 2026. The move is aimed at maintaining academic quality and ensuring that computing graduates possess the required professional skills.

Director General Quality Assurance Nasir Shah said the suspension serves as a corrective measure and will remain in effect until institutional audits, quality assessments, and approval processes are completed.

The commission has also issued a student advisory urging prospective applicants and their families to verify the status of computing programs before applying. According to the advisory, admissions to the affected departments will remain closed until further notice.

The suspension impacts institutions across multiple regions, including Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Universities placed under review will undergo detailed evaluations to assess academic standards, faculty quality, curriculum effectiveness, and student outcomes.

HEC officials emphasized that the objective is not punitive but rather to strengthen educational standards and improve the quality of computing education nationwide. Institutions will be eligible to resume admissions once they successfully address the identified shortcomings and meet the commission’s quality benchmarks.

The development is expected to affect thousands of prospective students seeking admission to computing and computer science programs for the upcoming academic session.
