Trump Warns NATO Allies Over Lack of Support

Starmer Faces Criticism From Trump After Resignation Announcement

WASHINGTON: (Web Desk) – U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday suggested that the United States could reconsider its level of support for NATO allies if member countries fail to back key American military and security initiatives.

Speaking during a press conference in the Oval Office, Trump expressed frustration over what he described as insufficient support from some NATO members during recent U.S. military operations involving Iran. He argued that while Washington invests heavily in collective defense, some allies are reluctant to provide assistance when requested.

Despite his criticism of the alliance, Trump is expected to participate in the upcoming NATO Summit scheduled to take place in Turkey next month.

The U.S. president also directed criticism at outgoing British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who announced his resignation as Labour Party leader and prime minister following mounting political pressure. Multiple international media organizations have reported Starmer’s resignation and his decision to remain in office until a successor is chosen.

Trump said Starmer had damaged his political standing through policies related to energy, immigration, and crime. He specifically criticized Britain’s energy strategy, arguing that the UK should make greater use of North Sea oil resources rather than relying heavily on imports.

The U.S. leader also referenced disagreements with Starmer over the use of British military facilities in Cyprus during operations involving Iran. Trump claimed the UK government was initially hesitant to approve American access to military infrastructure before later granting permission.

Starmer announced his resignation after facing growing pressure from within the governing Labour Party. He is expected to remain as caretaker prime minister while the party selects a new leader, with former Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham widely viewed as the leading contender to succeed him.

The developments come amid a period of significant political change in the United Kingdom, which has experienced frequent leadership transitions over the past decade.
