High-Level Chinese Delegation Visits NUST to Explore Academic Collaboration Opportunities

Dr. Ashfaque Highlights Pak-China Strategic Friendship

Islamabad — A high-level Chinese delegation visited the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) as part of a strategic effort to strengthen academic ties between Pakistan and China. The visit was hosted by the NUST Institute of Policy Studies (NIPS) at the university’s main campus and focused on enhancing collaboration with top Chinese universities, research institutions, think tanks, and policy centers.

The session was moderated by Mr. Amir Yaqub, Director NIPS, who emphasized the cultural aspects of cooperation as a vital component of the growing relationship between the two countries.

In his welcoming remarks, Mr. Muhammad Arif Malik, Pro-Rector (Planning & Resources), underscored the importance of academic collaboration in fortifying bilateral relations. He noted that the partnership between Pakistan and China must extend beyond infrastructure and trade to include knowledge exchange and research-based engagement.

The delegation was led by H.E. Mr. Lei Xin, Deputy Director General of the Information Center, International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. He lauded the visit as a step toward deepening people-to-people, cultural, and academic relations between the two nations, reaffirming China’s commitment to a multifaceted partnership with Pakistan.

Dr. Ashfaque Hasan Khan, Director General NIPS, highlighted the strategic and time-tested friendship between the two countries, citing shared goals and mutual interests in various domains. He expressed gratitude to H.E. Yang Nuo, Minister Counsellor at the Chinese Embassy in Islamabad, for facilitating the delegation’s visit.

Ms. Maria Qadri, Director of Marketing and Communications at NUST, delivered a detailed presentation on NUST’s global standing, its international partnerships—particularly with Chinese institutions—its robust research ecosystem, and its role as a regional knowledge hub. She also outlined new avenues for collaboration in education, innovation, and research.

A key highlight of the visit was an interactive session between the Chinese delegation and faculty and students from the NUST School of Social Sciences & Humanities (S3H) and the Centre for International Peace & Stability (CIPS). Discussions revolved around joint research initiatives, academic exchanges, and student and scholar mobility programs.

The visit concluded with a guided tour of the NUST campus, showcasing its state-of-the-art academic and research facilities, innovation ecosystem, and dynamic learning environment.
