HEC cracks down on fake universities, warns students nationwide

ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – In a major step to safeguard students from fraudulent educational institutions, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) has released a comprehensive list identifying 147 fake universities, campuses, institutes, and academic programmes, as reported by a private news channel on Thursday.

According to the official data, Punjab has the highest number of illegal institutions, with 94 fake universities and campuses, including several operating in Lahore. Sindh follows with 35 such entities, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has 12, Azad Jammu and Kashmir has four, and two have been listed under federal jurisdiction.

The HEC has strongly advised students and parents to carefully verify the status of any institution before seeking admission. The commission emphasized that degrees issued by unregistered or illegal institutions will not be recognized under any circumstances.

Authorities have urged the public to consult the official HEC list to avoid wasting valuable time, money, and effort on illegitimate educational setups.
