Heavy Punjab Rains Claim Ten Lives Amid Flood Alerts Across Province

LAHORE (Staff Reporter): Torrential rainfall across Punjab has caused widespread damage, claiming the lives of at least 10 people, including women and children, in separate rain-related incidents.

Heavy downpours have disrupted normal activities throughout the province, with several casualties reported due to roof collapses and drowning incidents caused by accumulated rainwater.

In Lahore, three people, including a woman, were killed after roofs collapsed in different incidents, while several others sustained injuries.

In Kasur, two people lost their lives and three others were injured when a house roof collapsed. In Gujrat, three siblings died after the roof of their home caved in.

Another roof collapse in Hujra Shah Muqeem resulted in the death of a woman, while four others were injured. In Gujranwala, a child drowned in rainwater.

The Meteorological Department has predicted further rainfall in Punjab and other parts of Pakistan until July 27, raising concerns over additional flooding and damage.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported that water levels in major rivers across Punjab remained stable over the past 24 hours, although increased rainfall in upper regions has contributed to rising river flows.

The Indus River has reached a low-level flood condition at Kalabagh, Chashma and Taunsa, while the Chenab River has also returned to a low-level flood status following changes in water flow.

Low-level flooding has been recorded at Marala, Khanki, Qadirabad and Trimmu along the Chenab River. Water levels in the Jhelum and Sutlej rivers remain within normal limits.

The Ravi River is currently facing low-level flooding at Balloki and Sidhhnai. Meanwhile, the Basantar stream in Narowal has reached a medium flood level, and Nullah Palkhu has been reported at a high flood level.
