Election Commission Warns Against Forged Notification During GB Polls
GILGIT: (Web Desk) The Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan has categorically rejected a notification circulating on social media that falsely claims the disqualification of election candidate Riyaz Akbar.
In an official statement, the commission clarified that the document was not issued by its office and holds no legal, constitutional, or administrative status. Authorities described the notification as fabricated and misleading.
The commission further revealed that the forged document unlawfully used the name and signature of the Provincial Election Commissioner. Officials stressed that creating and spreading such fake material constitutes a criminal offence and may lead to legal consequences.
According to the statement, the matter is being treated with utmost seriousness, and action will be taken against those involved in producing and distributing the fraudulent notification.
The Election Commission urged voters, political parties, and media organizations to avoid relying on unverified information circulating online. It advised the public to obtain election-related updates only through official and authorized channels.
Gilgit-Baltistan Election Race Intensifies Across 24 Constituencies
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency, the commission stated that only information released through its official platforms should be considered authentic. It also pledged to continue fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities and ensuring free, fair, and transparent elections across Gilgit-Baltistan.
Meanwhile, polling for the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly elections is underway across the region. Voting began in the morning and will continue until 5pm, with 958,480 registered voters eligible to cast their ballots. A total of 403 candidates are contesting 24 assembly seats in a highly competitive electoral race.
