Sharjeel Memon Accuses PML-N of AJK Election Manipulation

KARACHI: (Our Correspondent) – Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has accused the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) of influencing the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections through alleged intimidation, electoral manipulation, and misuse of government resources.

Addressing a press conference, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader claimed that the PML-N had secured political gains through pressure rather than public support. He alleged that the people of Azad Kashmir would not accept what he described as an imposed mandate.

Memon accused the Punjab government of interfering in the AJK electoral process and alleged that federal ministers had violated the Election Commission’s code of conduct during the election campaign.

The senior PPP leader claimed that the PML-N had faced rejection in previous elections in Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, while alleging that supporters from Punjab were brought to party rallies.

Criticising the ruling party, Memon alleged that it had come to power through intimidation and rigging, referring to the disputed “Form 47” controversy associated with the 2024 general elections. He claimed the government was operating on what he called a “fake mandate.”

He further alleged that incidents of violence and display of weapons occurred during the AJK elections, claiming that the electoral process was affected by widespread irregularities.

Memon also challenged Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to resign and contest an election from any constituency in Punjab, alleging that voters had rejected the PML-N leadership.

Commenting on Maryam Nawaz’s recent remarks, the PPP leader criticised her for not addressing the death of a PPP worker, according to his claims.

Highlighting PPP’s political performance, Memon said the party had improved its electoral position and defended the development record of Sindh, particularly in the health sector. He claimed that Sindh provides some of the country’s leading medical facilities.

The Sindh minister concluded by criticising PML-N leadership over past political decisions, alleging that PPP leaders had remained committed to the country during political challenges.
