Electoral Alliance: Nawaz meets Ch Shajaat

Nawaz Sharif, a three-time former prime minister, returned to the country in October after nearly four years in exile in London.

In a significant political development, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) have reached a seat adjustment agreement ahead of the upcoming general elections scheduled for February 8. The breakthrough occurred after PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif visited the Lahore residence of PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, marking a reunion after a 15-year gap.

The meeting, which lasted around 40 minutes, involved discussions on the potential formation of an electoral alliance. Both parties decided to establish separate committees to finalize the details of the alliance. Accompanying Nawaz Sharif were PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif, along with other prominent leaders such as Maryam Nawaz, Rana Sanaullah, Ayaz Sadiq, and Azam Nazeer Tarar.

PML-Q leaders Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, and Shafay Hussain were also present during the meeting. Sources reveal that the two parties have agreed on seat adjustments for two National Assembly and three Punjab Assembly constituencies. The arrangement includes constituencies represented by PML-Q leader Tariq Bashir Cheema and Salik, as well as Shafay’s provincial assembly constituency.

During the discussions, Nawaz Sharif expressed concern about the health of Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, a veteran politician who has previously served as the country’s prime minister. Despite the significant development, no official statement was issued following the meeting.
