Eight Children Die in Measles Outbreak in Rahim Yar Khan

Measles Outbreak Suspected in Tragic Child Deaths in Punjab

Rahim Yar Khan: (Web Desk) – At least eight children have died in suspected measles-related cases over the past six weeks in a locality of Rahim Yar Khan, raising serious concerns among health authorities.

The deaths were reported from Basti Hakim Abdullah, where the victims—aged between two and six years—included both boys and girls. The situation has triggered alarm among local health officials due to the rapid spread of symptoms in the area.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of Health, Dr Babar Ali, several cases worsened after families reportedly sought treatment from an unqualified practitioner instead of visiting certified medical facilities.

He stated that legal proceedings have been initiated against the individual accused of providing improper treatment, stressing that delayed and inappropriate medical care contributed to the tragic outcomes.

Health officials further noted that many affected children were already suffering from malnutrition and low body weight, factors that likely increased their vulnerability to infection.

The district administration and health department are closely monitoring the situation, while emergency response measures have been activated.

Mobile healthcare units, including “Clinic on Wheels,” have been deployed to the affected area to provide immediate medical assistance, improve outreach, and help prevent further spread of the disease.
