Punjab Police Arrest 108 Over Independence Day Violations

LAHORE: (Staff Reporter) – Punjab Police arrested 108 people and registered 91 cases across the province for various violations during Independence Day celebrations on Saturday, including one-wheeling, aerial firing and hooliganism.

Punjab Inspector General of Police Abdul Karim praised the police force for maintaining law and order and ensuring effective security arrangements throughout the celebrations.

The provincial police chief also commended the CCPO Lahore, Regional Police Officers (RPOs), District Police Officers (DPOs), City Police Officers (CPOs) and other senior officers for their efforts in ensuring that Independence Day events were conducted peacefully.

Punjab Police launched a province-wide crackdown against dangerous and unlawful activities during the celebrations, with particular focus on one-wheeling, aerial firing and hooliganism. The operation was carried out on the IG’s directives, with officers instructed to take action against violators without discrimination.

According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, 101 suspects were arrested and 85 cases registered over one-wheeling, while six people were arrested and five cases were registered in connection with aerial firing.

In Lahore, police arrested 55 people and registered 42 cases for various violations during Independence Day celebrations.

IG Punjab Abdul Karim had directed police officers across the province to strictly enforce the law and immediately respond to activities that posed a threat to public safety. Officers were specifically instructed to act against one-wheeling, aerial firing, hooliganism and other unlawful conduct.
