Punjab IGP Removes 588 Policemen Over Corruption Allegations

LAHORE: (Crime Reporter) – Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Rao Abdul Karim has removed 588 policemen from their posts over alleged involvement in corruption, on Monday.

According to police sources, 178 of the officials were suspended, while 53 were dismissed from service following departmental action.

The highest number of cases was reported in Lahore, where action was taken against 56 policemen, followed by Rahim Yar Khan with 37, Multan with 30, Nankana Sahib with 27 and Bhakkar with 25.

The officials facing action included 154 sub-inspectors, 123 assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs), 52 head constables, 147 constables and 44 traffic police personnel.

Sources said the action followed 185 pieces of intelligence information and 69 complaints received from citizens.

The officials were accused of facilitating drug traffickers and allegedly providing or concealing information related to drug trafficking operations and supervision.

IGP Rao Abdul Karim has directed strict monitoring of Integrity Checks at all police stations and licensing offices to prevent corruption and ensure greater accountability.
