Navy Chief Reaffirms Commitment On World Oceans Day

Pakistan Navy Highlights Ocean Protection On World Oceans Day

ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf marked World Oceans Day 2026 by reaffirming Pakistan Navy’s commitment to protecting the marine environment and promoting the sustainable use of ocean resources.

In his message issued on the occasion, the Naval Chief highlighted this year’s theme, “Strong Marine Protected Areas for Our Blue Planet,” emphasizing the need for enhanced conservation measures to preserve marine ecosystems and ensure a sustainable future for the world’s oceans.

Admiral Ashraf noted that oceans cover more than 70 percent of the Earth’s surface and play a vital role in regulating climate, supporting biodiversity, facilitating international trade and sustaining millions of livelihoods. He warned that challenges such as marine pollution, overfishing, habitat degradation and climate change continue to threaten ocean health worldwide.

The Naval Chief underscored the significance of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), describing them as essential tools for safeguarding marine biodiversity, coral reefs, mangroves, endangered species and coastal ecosystems. He said effective management and expansion of MPAs can strengthen ecological resilience, support sustainable fisheries and help mitigate the effects of climate change.

Calling ocean conservation a shared national and global responsibility, the Naval Chief urged government institutions, environmental organizations, maritime stakeholders and citizens to work collectively to strengthen existing measures, enhance cooperation and accelerate actions that protect marine ecosystems for future generations.

He concluded by emphasizing that sustained commitment and coordinated efforts can make a meaningful contribution toward ensuring healthy, resilient and productive oceans for years to come.
