PDMA Rain Alert Punjab: Province Braces For Final Monsoon Spell
Heavy rains expected from September 12 to 17, with flooding and landslide risks in several districts
PDMA – (Staff Reporter/Web Desk) – A PDMA rain alert Punjab has been issued as the province braces for its ninth and final monsoon spell, expected to start from September 12 and continue till September 17.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority said the fresh weather system is likely to bring widespread rain across several districts. Officials have asked people to stay alert as conditions may change quickly over the coming days.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department added that a westerly wave will enter the country’s upper areas this weekend and is expected to grow stronger by September 14. This wave is being seen as the main driver behind the upcoming rain spell.
DG PDMA Saif Anwar Jappa has warned that major cities, including Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, and Faisalabad, could face urban flooding once the rain intensifies. He also flagged the risk of flash flooding in low-lying drains, urging local authorities to stay prepared.
Hilly regions were not left out of the warning. Murree and the Galiat area have been placed under a landslide alert, as heavy rainfall in these zones often triggers sudden slope failures.
To manage the situation, the DG PDMA has directed all commissioners and deputy commissioners across Punjab to remain on high alert and ensure emergency response teams are ready to act.
Areas such as Jhelum, Chakwal, Talagang, and Attock are expected to see rain early on, while cities like Sialkot, Gujrat, Sargodha, and Multan will likely receive heavier showers between September 14 and 17.
Residents in flood-prone and hilly areas are advised to follow official updates and take precautionary measures during this final spell of the monsoon season.
