Trump signals breakthrough soon in ongoing US Iran negotiations talks
US Iran talks near deal Trump teases major announcement
WASHINGTON: (Web Desk) – Donald Trump signaled that a major development could emerge soon in ongoing negotiations with Iran, though he chose not to reveal details. Speaking aboard Air Force One, he suggested that progress has been positive and hinted that an announcement may come shortly, possibly within days.
Trump indicated that both sides are close to reaching a final agreement, with another round of talks expected soon. Reports suggest negotiations could resume in Islamabad on April 20, with mediation support from Pakistan and regional partners.
He also mentioned that a high-profile individual—described as a “genius”—would visit the White House, adding to speculation about the nature of upcoming discussions. A press conference is expected to clarify developments.
Trump expressed appreciation for Shehbaz Sharif and Asim Munir, crediting them for helping facilitate dialogue. He also acknowledged support from Gulf nations including Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain.
On the security front, Trump warned that a US naval blockade of Iranian ports would remain in place unless a deal is finalized. He also signaled uncertainty about extending the current ceasefire, which is nearing its expiration.

Meanwhile, Iran has reopened the Strait of Hormuz following a ceasefire involving regional tensions, though it warned the route could be closed again if pressure continues.
Key sticking points remain, particularly over Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile. The US wants the material transferred abroad, while Iran insists on keeping it domestically with reduced enrichment levels. Discussions also continue over how long Iran should suspend uranium enrichment, with Washington proposing 20 years and Tehran suggesting a shorter timeline.
Despite differences, Trump maintained that negotiations are “very close” to success and could result in a deal beneficial to all parties.
