The United States has reacted to the detention of military officers in Pakistan.

"Pentagon: Military and Political Leaders from Both Sides Persist in Discussions of Shared Interests"

US-In response to recent reports about the arrest of military officers in Pakistan, the United States has stated that it views the issue as an internal matter for Pakistan. Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh addressed the situation during a weekly briefing, acknowledging the reports while reiterating Washington’s commitment to its strong relationship with Pakistan.

Singh emphasized that the matter is primarily for Pakistan to handle, describing it as “really a Pakistani internal matter for them to speak to.” She also highlighted the enduring strength of the partnership between the two countries, noting that military and political leaders from both sides continue to engage in discussions on shared interests. “As you know, the US values our partnership with Pakistan,” Singh said, underlining that interactions are based on mutual interests with both military and civilian leaders.

The spokesperson further highlighted the United States’ dedication to collaborating with Pakistan, especially in matters related to regional security and shared objectives. Singh emphasized, “We will continue to support Pakistan in achieving regional security and our common goals,” reinforcing that U.S. assistance and cooperation with Pakistan are key priorities.

On August 12, former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed was placed under military custody as disciplinary measures were initiated against him. The Pakistan Army has begun proceedings for a Field General Court Martial (FGCM) to address the charges against the retired officer.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated that, following Supreme Court orders, a thorough inquiry was conducted by the Pakistan Army to investigate the complaints related to Hameed in the Top City Case. The ISPR added, “As a result, appropriate disciplinary action has been taken against Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd), in accordance with the Pakistan Army Act.”

Additionally, the ISPR reported that several violations of the Pakistan Army Act by Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd) after his retirement have been confirmed.

“The Field General Court Martial process has been launched, and Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd) is now in military custody,” the ISPR stated.

On Friday, three more retired army officers were also detained as part of the ongoing court martial proceedings against Lt Gen Hameed. According to the ISPR, this action is part of a wider investigation into behavior considered to breach military discipline.
