SSGC releases update on gas supply during Ramadan

KARACHI: The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has held emergency meetings at both the secretary and minister levels to address complaints of gas supply disruptions during Sehri and Iftar hours, following a sharp rise in domestic customer complaints.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif took immediate notice of the issue on Sunday, directing the SSGC to ensure consistent gas availability for domestic customers during Ramadan. In response to these complaints, SSGC’s senior management convened overnight meetings and dispatched teams to monitor and address the situation on-site.

To resolve the issue, the company implemented several key measures, including a 10% increase in gas pressure, as well as early opening of gas distribution centers to improve system pressure, particularly in areas with low network capacity. Additionally, an extra 20 MMCFD of gas has been arranged to bolster transmission lines and meet rising demand during peak hours.

Control rooms have also been established at regional offices to monitor gas supply and resolve low pressure complaints on an emergency basis. The gas schedule for Ramadan is set from 3:00 AM to 9:00 AM for Sehri, and 3:30 PM to 10:00 PM for Iftar.

Despite these efforts, many areas of Karachi faced gas shortages on the first day of Ramadan, leaving residents without gas during crucial times for Sehri and Iftar preparations, sparking frustration among the city’s residents.
