Shehbaz Sharif Says Civil, Military Leadership Uniting To Strengthen Economy

Shehbaz Sharif – (Staff Reporter/Web Desk) – Shehbaz Sharif has said Pakistan’s civil and military leadership is working closely together to make the country’s economy stronger. He shared this while speaking to reporters in New York during the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

He was standing next to Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam at the time. The prime minister said both sides of the country’s leadership were holding regular talks to push economic growth and strengthen ties with other nations.

He also spoke about peace in the region. He said Pakistan’s leaders were working hard to bring calm to the area under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, adding that real peace needs everyone to pull together.

Talking about Lebanon, he called it a close and brotherly country. He said Pakistan fully supports Lebanon’s independence and its right to protect its own land, and that harming innocent people can never be justified.

The Lebanese prime minister thanked Pakistan for trying to ease tensions in the region. He said Lebanon cannot stay separate from the wider conflict around it and hoped Pakistan’s efforts would help bring a peaceful solution soon.

Shehbaz Sharif also spoke about the tense situation near the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea. He said friendly countries were working to calm things down there too.

Asked about his meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, he confirmed they had a detailed talk about Pakistan’s efforts to reduce tension in the region. He described Iran as a close neighbour and said Pezeshkian welcomed Pakistan’s peace efforts, confirming Iran’s full support for the Islamabad MoU.

On security, the prime minister said militants from Afghanistan continue attacking Pakistan, killing civilians and security personnel. He called these acts unacceptable and said Pakistan will keep responding firmly until terrorism is fully eradicated.
