Afridi confident as Pakistan prepare for long Test season
ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – Shaheen Shah Afridi has expressed confidence that the Pakistan national cricket team is targeting qualification for the ICC World Test Championship final as it prepares for a demanding Test season starting with a two-match series against the Bangladesh national cricket team.
Speaking ahead of the series, Afridi said the team is ready for a long and challenging red-ball campaign, emphasizing the need for consistency, discipline, and adaptability across different conditions.
He said Pakistan is fully focused not only on the upcoming series but also on building momentum throughout the World Test Championship cycle. According to him, the ultimate goal is to reach the final, which requires sustained high-level performances in both home and away matches.

Afridi acknowledged that conditions in the subcontinent can be challenging, especially on spin-friendly pitches, but stressed that preparation and execution will be key to success. He added that Pakistan has trained for varied conditions, including both turning tracks and greener surfaces.
The fast bowler noted that every team benefits from home advantage, but strong preparation can help overcome those challenges. He said the squad is mentally and physically ready for the demands of the series.
The Test series will begin at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka from May 8 to 12, followed by the second Test in Sylhet from May 16 to 20. Shan Masood will lead the side, with key players including Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Afridi, and Hasan Ali forming the core of the squad.
