Severe Heatwave Claims Lives In Southern India
India Faces Deadly Heatwave With Rising Temperatures
Dehli: (Web Desk) At least 16 people have died due to heatstroke in southern India as an intense and persistent heatwave continues to affect large regions of the country. Authorities and local media reports indicate that multiple states remain under severe heatwave alerts despite repeated warnings from health and disaster management agencies.
Temperatures across several Indian cities have surged beyond 45°C in recent days, significantly increasing health risks for outdoor workers, the elderly, and other vulnerable groups. The extreme heat has placed additional pressure on public health systems as cases of heat-related illness continue to rise.
Most fatalities have been reported from the southern state of Telangana, where officials have stepped up precautionary measures in response to worsening conditions. State Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy directed departments to maintain continuous monitoring and “statewide vigilance” to reduce further loss of life.

Officials described the current heat intensity as “abnormally high,” prompting emergency preparedness campaigns and public awareness drives aimed at reducing exposure during peak daytime temperatures.
Experts note that while severe summers are not unusual in India, rising global temperatures linked to climate change are making heatwaves more frequent, longer-lasting, and more dangerous across South Asia and other parts of the world.
