Senator Ali Zafar Decries State of Cricket; Calls for Naqvi’s Resignation

PCB-Senator Ali Zafar Decries State of Cricket; Calls for Naqvi’s Resignation . During a recent Senate session, Senator Ali Zafar delivered a sharp critique of Pakistan’s sports landscape, with a particular focus on cricket.

While he praised javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem as a national hero for his recent achievements, Zafar expressed dismay over the decline of other sports like hockey and squash, which once brought pride to the nation.

Zafar condemned the current state of cricket, declaring, “Our cricket is ruined,” and called for the resignation of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. He argued that Naqvi’s lack of expertise undermines the board’s effectiveness, stating, “If the head is incompetent, the institution will be destroyed.” Zafar compared this situation to appointing someone without medical knowledge as the principal of a medical college, saying, “Instead of a doctor, I would become a butcher.”

Senate Urges PCB Leadership Change: Mohsin Naqvi Faces Calls for Resignation

Zafar urged that a qualified individual be appointed as PCB Chairman and demanded a Senate debate on the broader decline of Pakistan’s sports sector.

Senator Manzoor Ahmed supported Zafar’s critique, highlighting the high salaries of cricketers—between Rs. 4 to 6 million—without corresponding results. He stressed the need for expertise within the PCB and also backed the call for Naqvi’s resignation, asserting, “An expert in this field should come forward.”

The discussion underscored significant concerns about the leadership of Pakistan’s sports institutions and emphasized the need for reforms to restore the country’s sports legacy.
