PEMRA Council Reviews Complaints And Media Regulation Matters

ISLAMABAD: (Staff Reporter) – The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Council of Complaints Islamabad held its 121st meeting at PEMRA Headquarters on July 31, 2026. The session marked the first meeting of the council following its notification by the Federal Government on July 20, 2026.

The meeting was chaired by Syed Muhammad Ali and attended by council members including Fauzia Shahid, Gauhar Zahid Malik, Dr. Surayya Kanwal Afridi and Kaiwan Hamid Raja.

During the meeting, the council secretary presented a detailed overview of pending complaints and the council’s performance over the past two years. The Islamabad Council of Complaints disposed of 637 cases related to media content and wages or salaries issues through 38 meetings during this period, marking the highest number of complaints resolved since PEMRA’s establishment.

The council also reviewed progress on the implementation of its recommendations and discussed matters related to Landing Rights Permission holders and the distribution of foreign channels through local networks.

For public interest and a fair media environment, the council recommended that all distribution companies ensure immediate, complete and transparent compliance with Section 19 and Section 19(2) of the PEMRA Ordinance (Amended), 2007. The provisions require distributors to relay only those foreign channels that hold valid licenses.

The council further examined and decided on nine content-related matters during the meeting.
