Richard Grenell Urges Matthew Miller to ‘Speak Normally’ and ‘Free Imran Khan

“You are late. And this is too little and too weak. Speak normally. Free Imran Khan,” Grenell stated

WASHINGTON: In response to recent remarks by U.S. Department of State Spokesperson Matthew Miller, Richard Grenell, a close confidant of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, has criticized the U.S. stance on the sentencing of Pakistani civilians in a military tribunal. Miller had tweeted expressing the United States’ concern over the lack of fair trial rights for the civilians and urged Pakistani authorities to respect due process.

Grenell, a former U.S. ambassador to Germany and a prominent figure in international politics, posted a sharp reply on social media. “You are late. And this is too little and too weak. Speak normally. Free Imran Khan,” Grenell stated, drawing attention to Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who has been facing legal challenges and imprisonment.

The U.S. has been increasingly vocal about its concerns regarding Pakistan’s legal processes, particularly regarding the treatment of political leaders and activists. Grenell’s tweet, however, suggests frustration over what he perceives as delayed action from the U.S. government, highlighting the urgency of addressing human rights and political freedoms in Pakistan.

This exchange has sparked a new wave of discussions about U.S. foreign policy in South Asia, especially regarding the intersection of human rights and international diplomacy. As tensions continue to rise, the call for fair treatment and legal reforms in Pakistan grows louder, with influential figures like Grenell now adding their voices to the debate.
