Pakistan Moves Closer to Availability of Advanced Hepatitis Delta Treatment

ISLAMABAD: (News Desk) – Pakistan has taken a major step towards making advanced treatment for Hepatitis Delta Virus (HDV) available in the country after Pakistan and China signed an important business-to-business (B2B) agreement for the supply of the medicine.

Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal held a meeting with Dr. Bin Chen, Chief Executive Officer of Chinese healthcare company Huahui Health, to review progress regarding treatment options for Hepatitis Delta patients. The meeting was attended by renowned hematologist Professor Dr. Saeed S. Hamid, clinical research expert Syed Manwar Ali, Federal Health Secretary Aslam Ghori, and DRAP CEO Dr. Ubaid.

The health minister said the agreement for the Hepatitis Delta treatment is a significant achievement and a major milestone towards ensuring local availability of modern medical care in Pakistan.

Mustafa Kamal said the cooperation between Pakistan and China would help provide advanced treatment to Hepatitis Delta patients while also strengthening Pakistan’s pharmaceutical sector and international healthcare partnerships.

He added that according to estimates, more than one million people in Pakistan may be affected by Hepatitis Delta Virus. The agreement will improve patients’ access to effective treatment and support the country’s healthcare system.

The minister said the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) is completing all legal and regulatory requirements on a priority basis so that the medicine can become available to Pakistani patients as soon as possible.

He further stated that the Phase-II clinical study of the Hepatitis Delta medicine has already shown positive results regarding its safety and effectiveness.
