GENEVA: Switzerland has added six individuals linked to ousted Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro to its sanctions list, allowing their assets held in the country to be frozen, while removing two names from the existing list.
According to the Swiss government, the updated sanctions list was released late Friday and now contains 41 individuals, including Maduro, who was captured by US forces in January 2026.
Among the six newly added individuals are businessman and former Venezuelan industry minister Alex Saab and his associate Alvaro Pulido Vargas. Both were recently deported to the United States by Venezuela’s acting president, Delcy Rodriguez.
Meanwhile, Switzerland has removed Marleny Contreras, the wife of Venezuelan Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello, and lawmaker Jorge Arreaza from the sanctions list. Arreaza heads a parliamentary commission overseeing the implementation of an amnesty law that could lead to the release of political prisoners.
The Swiss asset-freezing order will remain in effect for four years.
Foreign governments seeking to recover funds held in Swiss banks must submit official requests and provide evidence that legal proceedings have been initiated concerning the origin of the assets.
